You realize it's an enemies to friends (to lovers) story right? He's literally the one who tried to assassinate her first, ofc he's not gonna care if others try to assassinate her as well. And she's not any better–she's manipulative, straight up. They're both assholes, he hates her and she doesn't like him. there relationship has changed since then, and now, that he is actually growing fond of her, he's trying to help. It's called character development

The fact is that there’s a group of assassins looking to kill her, but such things have never been a defining factor when it pertains to one’s ability to rule. But you’re saying that suddenly, people/rebels looking to kill royalty and conspiring to make it happen means he’s incompetent? Dang, all those historical stories I’ve read before must have had nothing but incompetent people in there, I guess. **note the sarcasm.** As far as I’ve seen, when people band together to kill a powerful figure, it means they’re at least smart enough to get away with it.
The only real thing we know about whether he’s a capable emperor or not stems from one of his advisors being annoyed at how much time he spends reading erotica. But he’s never actually complained about the emperor’s inaptitudes when it comes to ruling, so until that happens, let’s reserve judgment.

I can't say I enjoyed reading this. The male lead is absolute trash. Like his trashiness is ruining the whole book because most of the problems being faced by the Mc wouldn't be problems if he wasn't trash or rather if he was competent.
