This isn’t a miscommunication issue. This is plain and simply a lie, whether it’s “white” or not. Either way, it ended with bad consequences.
Ci Nian did very right (he would be even more right if he confronted him later when they see each other again but who knows). He didn’t believe the gossip but also didn’t act blind.
Our Cheng Qu is really wrong though. Not only does he hide a lot from his partner (which a trust and power disbalance) but also went to hang out with another crush/man without the “consent” of his lover and then lied about it when he had the opportunity to tell the truth.
The worst about this is that Cheng Qi knows how scarred Ci Nian is. He didn’t take into account the potential health risks for him considering his vulnerable state if ever his “plan” of not saying anything didn’t go well.
