I have a question, why do some mangas go on hiatus after being licensed in English?

well if they're licensed, there is a high chance that what we're doing (scanning, translating, reading... illegally) will be found out & sued by the legal publishers
for JPN mangas, publishers are more forgiving because it's some kind of marketing, authors still earn stably based on the sales of physical books -> you can still find some licensed mangas being uploaded here.
for KRN manhwa, oh Lezhin... they're very terrifying and authors are also very very strict - there've been some drama that authors sued some scan groups. manhwa is webtoon-based which counts sales by numbers of view so reading illegally does affect authors a lot :(
