He said he wanted to stop pretending to mope because, "pretending to mope" is his way of punishing Cole for being so 'lenient' with their relationship. So he wants to "stop having to punish Cole" and just have Cole UNDERSTAND that Alex loves him. Also, he is SERIOUS about Cole, and that's WHY he has to "pretend to mope" to punish him. He wants Cole to get jealous, to get greedy, and to get serious about Alex instead of being so easygoing when it comes to his partner.
In other words, he wants Cole to get a freaking clue, and realize that Alex loves him, by making Cole jealous enough to admit his true feelings that he's hiding.
