Actually, his problem is that the Callica family can tell when people are lying...except for others with that ability. The reason WE find him suspicious is because Violetta distrusts him, because she cannot see his honesty and he appears to be close to the elders.

It's entirely possible that Terzo could be a perfectly good young man who only wants to support Violetta, Margaux, and the Callica head, but the longer he is treated with distrust, the more likely he is to go wrong. It really makes me wonder what the catalyst was to make Violetta suddenly distrust a close friend she has had since her early childhood.

None of the spoilers I read really explain his motives for anything, it's really just Violetta waiting for him to blow up and ruin her life because people she can't read cannot be trusted--with the exception of the Callica head and Margaux.
