People do that to meet other people with similar interests, usually to make new friends
tbh it's just for fun, and for early release, like if you don't join their discord u need to wait longer, and I think the point of having a discord is for chatting with others,
For example, if you join a translator discord, u can talk about the book they're translating with other people, like a (group fan account)?
Also there's also features like group voice chat, u can stream song with other strangers,

I have seen some web t o o n translators, other users asking to join their d i s c o r d . I have seen it has lots of features, but still. It is not social media to gain audience for popularity or profit. Than why to bother? I def have very less experience with it so I cannot understand the benefits of it at all. Anyone can explain what thy gain from it?
