really? i had dropped it quite a long time ago but i thought his reason was pretty valid at least what i saw through spoilers. not sure if they're spoilers anymore since it might have been revealed already so i guess ill put possible spoilers for duchess of the glass house

if i remember correctly, he had to pick between neglecting the fl or putting her in danger of her fathers abuse. something like the dad threatened the duke to neglect his daughter or else he would hurt her or something like that
He was forced to abuse her or her father would rescind his support of the duke, which is none sense since once he became duke there was literally nothing anyone could do to remove him from his position.
now people say its ok and the forgive him or feel bad for him lol thats why we shouldnt jump to the gun ;-; especially story wise, irl maybe not all jerk behavior has a darker story and needs better understanding but in stories the ml is almost 100% gonna have a good reason for their actions and repent for any toxicity from their trauma (unlike irl lol) so yall its ok sit tight and just wait. i also didnt know itd be that fast in 2 chapters he'd say something so that was quick, glad people didnt have more time to be frustrated and drop the story
