Now that makes sense. That's the only reason he was scared of hearing the news. I wonder why he said something cruel in the jail? Maybe he thought that the king will spare her, so he thought maybe saying something cruel will make her forget about him and live a new life with the child but it got backward.
My guess is he liked her first and was the one who requested for marriage but bec of the subjugation and war he had change he was obviously got traumatize with the war so traumatize he didnt want his child toexperience suffering in this world
