This is so sad. The fact that Ishid cried and asked "you won't leave me?" only shows that, no matter how much he loves Yunifer, he never expected her to stick around forever. And it makes sense, since Yunifer in the beginning didn't plan on staying by his side, but eventually giving him up to the heroine instead. However, discarding the FL's own circumstances, the main point is that Ishid had a very traumatic childhood. He never had anything he ever wanted or liked, and he's used to it — he's used to being alone, to being seen as scary and as inferior, to watch people abandon him as soon as he's not a useful tool anymore. And throughout the story, we know Yunifer never assured she would stay with him, because she was still coming to terms with her own feelings. And Ishid knew that. Ishid knew that she wasn't planning on staying for long. Not only by what her actions showed him, but because he — having such deep traumas — never expected 'someone like her' to be with 'someone like him'. From his point of view, he was not worthy of being happy. So having her, the one he loves, finally tell him "I love you" and "I wouldn't ever leave you" — when he doesn't think he deserves this kind of happiness and is really insecure about himself — made his feelings (of relief, of love, of happiness, and of sadness for the past) start leaking out. Ishid is adorable but this was just so so so sad
