If I'm not mistaken, the Emperor is in love (?) with his childhood friend, the one that grind the ink at the beginning. But that friend leaves the Emperor for another girl. So the thing is, MC looks similar to that girl. Emperor's harsh treatment to MC is like an indirect revenge to the childhood friend. In my opinion, mc is just a victim in the whole situation. Not 100% sure but I guess the plot is more or less like this(▰˘◡˘▰)
