well, most likely they did. Considering victorian era had an increase of mortality rates due to the non-advanced healthcare system (also the fact that hospitals used to be dirty back then and there was no treatment for diabetes). Diabetes was already known for a while even before the Victorian era. However, there isn’t really a clear sign if it was common to die from diabetes since patients die weeks/months after actually showing the first symptoms of it
