I feel the same way. I felt so bad for him who only seemed to be a substitute for the girl then, a understanding 'friend'.
It was so awful. I feel like he should've went with his friend back to the sea.
In the original fairy tale, the mermaid turns into foam at the end which is the death of the mermaid after her unrequited love. I wonder if the merman died. I wish there was an alternative ending ;v;!
I should be understanding, but I can't wish the 1st guy happiness with his girlfriend. ╥﹏╥ My heart aches for my mister merman, and it only feels the bitterness. The second story is so much better in term of satisfying, even if it's bitter, but still very sweet.
