That's horrible--I am so sorry you and her family had to go through that. But I can see what she did as the result of severe depression nd a possible psychotic break. I am sorry she didn't get help.
A person who waits six years and then makes a choice to systematically and repeatedly abuse a child is different. I am not saying she could not use help--but she knew what she was doing and she made her choices. It wasn't a one-time act of extreme desperation--it was a way to make money. That may mean she is a psychopath or has some sort of borderline personality disorder or something, but it isn't the type of extreme depressive episode that makes it impossible to tell right from wrong.
Yep that's very horrible dude.. even i told her, me and my mom is willing to help to take care of her child. But she kept having this horrible nightmare every night and screamed every single days. Her family took her to psychiatric. They gave her medicines. And everytime she gone berserk or tried to hurt herself, the must tied her and injected medicine so she will sleep that instant. But that day, they were careless.. because she can't gave birth in a hospital due to some adminiatration problems (she isn't married but have to give birth. Some hospital don't want to help ) so she gave birth at home. After one day, when everyone is sleeping, she stabbed her child , 7 holes with scissora. And then she killed her self.
And about momo's mom... whtever i remember how we found the baby's body, i can help but to hate her. I still cry everytime i red this story, nd yet i thought : "thanks God momo is still alive... "
For what it's worth, OP, I totally agree with you. While it's easy to cast judgement on the mother, what I like about Harada's work is how it details how complicated relationships can be, especially between broken and deeply flawed people. Momo is well within his right to hate his mother, but he obviously still loves her and wants her to love him back. She still has some affection for her son as well, but as a rape victim and teen mother, she was not, and will probably never be, emotionally equipped to love her son justly. Both of them have very tragic histories, but if they are ever going to get past those histories and save themselves from being tragic people, they'll have to make peace with the past.
No one would blame Momo for hating his mother for the rest of his life, but such hatred will shackle him to the past and he will never recover from it. If he's going to be happy in the future he will have to let go of the past and forgive his mother.
Let's say we're all Momo. If we, as a 6 yo, were abused and our mommy didn't notice our pain, I think we'd approach an offensive behavior to distance ourselves from mommy(the one we trusted). We didn't do anything behind mommy's back because we aren't a ploting child with amazing inteligence, we are a child who acts on instinct (and we want money because mommy is strugling to have them). We can't blame Momo for what happened 'cause he didn't know better as a 6yo. But his mother was 22 and, as an adult, it was her responsability to show what's good and bad to Momo. Well, it's understandable she had some mental issues after the rape, but she could've left Momo in an orfanage. Mama Momo didn't do that and that's why I think SHE WANTED to abuse Momo(maybe because he was the son of her rapist). (● ̄(エ) ̄●)
About Momo's mother, she is nothing more than a sociopath who got triggered. Nothing more and nothing else.
Kenneth Taylor (if I'm not confusing him with someone else, anyway the case was similar) suffered abuse and was raped during his childhood . He ended up marrying a woman whom he abused and killed. During the trial he said he had lost control, he loved her and oh, how they couldn't understand what he had been through all his life. The problem was that he felt no remorse, no empathy towards the victim, it was him, him, him. He was sentenced to death, and doctors agreed that his childhood triggered him, but first of all he was a psychopath . Actually many killers come from and abusive childhood, yet they still remain sociopaths or psychopaths who lost control, and maybe their abuse played a role in what they did. There has been a research in prison, and it was noticed how psychopaths, after being charged with rape and other crimes, would get out of prison sooner because they acted well and faked remorse. Also many rapists come from abusive backgrounds, yet they are nothing more than sick people who got triggered.
So yeah, to me, momo's mother is nothing else but a criminal. You guys remind me of charles manson, I watched a video of him where he said to the judge that it wasn't him who killed those people, it was society ahahaha. Useless to say, he is just a psycho.
Agree. Just a quote " Unlike psychotic individuals, psychopaths are rational and aware of what they are doing and why. Their behavior is the result of choice, freely exercised" it perfectly fits the woman, perfectly aware of what was happening, of the damage and it was her free choice to damage the child.
Since when do you have to know how to be a good person to not sell your small six year old boy to be raped by multiple grown men for money? There is literally no blurred line. Also I think that you should understand that Harada is not trying to get you to sympathize with the mom. Harada is completely 100% trying to show her as a criminal and abusive mother who does not take responsibility for herself. Harada is not trying to condone what the mom did, Harada is writing a very bad person and trying to make it clear that you cant sympathize with the choices she made despite what happened to her. You are missing the author's point.
YES. THIS. HOLY MOTHER OF-- THANK YOU.
I'm not very good with words so it was hard for me to explain this point correctly. I was never defending nor judging either of the characters. I was just stating that the both of them had it rough and later on went on to explain in several other posts that it made it difficult for them to be able to truly reconcile. Mama Momo is obviously living trauma as well as Momo. They are both still struggling with their demons that they caused for each other--intentional or not. Mama Momo never grew up with intentions to do that to her own child and Momo never wanted to be born out of rape and hate and then cause his mother any grief whether intentional or not. There's so much sadness in their relationship that it's heart breaking. And that's what Harada is so good at. They know how to take those heart strings and personal morals and pretty much tear them to shreds. Harada knows how to make us question ourselves.
This honestly reminded me of that oneshot that was uploaded here recently that basically sent this big message about female characters in bl/yaoi works. They suffer to make our love stories come true. 90% of the time they are made out to be the bad guys so we don't see their suffering. Now, like I said before, I don't think her actions were justified towards tiny Momo but we can't look past the pain she went through either.
Also, if someone could please point out where it states that Momo was 6 when he was gang banged that would be great. I am not seeing this evidence of Momo being that young. All it ever said was that he surely was young and pretty but that's about it. For all we know he coulda been 13 with that baby face of his since it would fit the time gap of them not speaking for like 10 or more years. And with being raised by his unstable mother his mental maturity could've also been younger than that of his actual age. Just a little side note here.
Mama Momo and Momo both had it rough, huh?
At first, just like anyone else, I was pissed off at the mom
for being so horrible to him but like-- it was pretty
rough on her as well. Yeah she's being selfish but
this is actually a pretty common practice in most single
parent families. The parent abandons the child only
to find their own happiness then ask that same child
to cut ties with them and to never talk to them again
for fear of being found out. It's heart breaking.
