It's the whole "ends justify the means" thing. As long as the human population survives, it's justifiable to sacrifice 1 person.

Because he knew his other daughter was the true sacrifice, but he threw his disabled, abused, unloved daughter in the pit for no reason. Not to mention, we have no clue what even wanted that Ancient God’s power for, at least the priest had good intentions and felt remorse
The father is just an abusive sack of doo. The priest though tries to justify his actions in sacrificing her. The whole sacrifice 500 to save 500,000 mentality.
i totally forgot the part when justifying wrong actions makes people forgivable no matter how wrong the deed was.
and again- the priest knew if he really had to ''sacrifice to save'' it should have been the real daughter... he did wrong and thats no justification when he wasn't even sure if the sacrifice was gonna get some results or not
