the problem is, the aristocrats will take the divorce as an opportunity to pressure him into marrying their daughters. At least the fl respects his boundaries. He doesn't know about other women and since he's clearly traumatized, he certainly wouldn't want to take his chances .
since duke(?) is traumatized i think divorce would actually be great for them? so that duke doesnt feel that it is his duty to try and do good stuff to the queen. they can just start over and actually marry again without having people around them pressuring/rushing them telling them what they should do with their own relationship. i think they both need time
