Level of dickheaded-ness matters when thinking about what someone deserves. He got more than he deserved by being able to continue to be Makoto's friend. I haven't seen any hate directed towards him except for a few calling him out on being a shitty friend and a creep. My comment was agreeing with Spring about comparing something bad to something worse. While it's not as bad as "something worse", "something bad" is still bad.
Yep, i agree that he got more than he deserved for the part when he was about to out him. But last part about him being not being able to move on was what i think is not satisfactory. And yeah if you read the title of the comment "not that much of a bad person" means he still did something bad, but it's not that bad that author had to make him listen to his crush having sex. And to that he deserved a better ending.
He chose to listen to them having sex. Him not being able to move on is on him. He was very clearly rejected. His ending was him not being able to move on but still being able to be friends with Makoto. He didn't deserve to stay friends with Makoto and he can still move on after some time. He got more than he deserved.
