I mean they don’t give us enough about the emperor to go on. He sounds dominant and paranoid about the nobles family or being used, but there’s nothing to explain his story so far. From the flashback I see that her family was the one that send her to him, and he was sick and tired of schemes. But once he thought she was different he even protect her once he knew he was going to die. I don’t see any mistreat on his end once they marry and were an actual couple. And from those little scribbles at the end we can see that he actually liked her. I feel like everything is a case of miscommunication. She thought he didn’t love her because of the way he conducted himself. And he feels betrayed because she never really showed her real personality. And from what he hears know he thinks she hates him and always did.
