At people being mad at the ML

You do realize that in real life, it isn't uncommon for abused people to become abusers? Even if they know how it feels, abused people can actually become abusers. It's a lot more common than you think.
Also, does anyone here read anything more than comics? People are people. The duke isn't a perfect dude. What he did was entirely messed up. But he is taking his second chance. He recognized the error of his ways. God forbid if a character isn't perfect.
Go read The Good Earth. That book will make you hate everyone in it then make you wonder why you are rooting for them later. Why? Because they are people. Not idealized versions that are easy to cheer for because there are no glaring flaws.
Anyways, I liked the duke even before his backstory was revealed. He's interesting and unique among these slew of rebirth stories because he actually gets to make things right. More often than not, if the ML did some fucked up shit or if a father did some fucked up shit they basically avoid doing the bad things because their memories get reset. Not this guy. His memories went back with him. He knows what he did. And he wants to be better and do right. THAT'S interesting. THAT'S writing.

Finally someone with sense...the commenters are saying childhood abuse isn't a reason to act the way he did and he's the reason this story is being dragged on like bruh you don't understand the impact abuse can have on someone at such a tender age...I personally feel like he handled it fairly well in his first life and now that he finally realizes his feelings for the fl in his second life he's trying to be better

Exactly. I was wondering the same….if anyone reads real life stories. Most women abusers grew up in homes where their mom was beaten, same with child abusers. Many who grew up in unhappy homes where parents ignored each other and did the minimum required for their children, grow up to be introverted with extremely difficult social ability. Females who grow up in abusive homes grow up thinking this is how life is for women. Children of drug addicts and alcoholics have a much higher risk towards addiction. Environment and upbringing make you most of the person you become. Then one day you look back and say, what the hell have I done with this life. Sometimes you have a chance to make things right and sometimes it’s too late.

ML came to that realization before he died, but it was too late. Then he got an opportunity to make things right. He’s doing his best by not allowing these controlling people to force him into decisions. He’s showing love and care for his wife and son. He still has a way to go on being able to verbally express his emotions, but he’s getting there. Most of us have many regrets and have made huge mistakes with friends, family and ourselves. Being given a chance to right our wrongs, I’d hope people would be cheering us on…..not saying, fuck you, you already messed up so just go and die.
