So there is another continent that deals in a different type of magic. The magic of this continent as we know comes from mama and stuff but the other continent gets their magic from sacrifices I think. So basically it’s like dark magic. So the symbols that spear on the kids’ backs are a result of a ritual that was performed to give them more power.
