The story between the bird and the girl it's a metaphor for the earl and Eleanor. The earl was trapped in a cage like the bird and when it managed to break the cage it's related to the fire that killed her family while the girl was in her own cage by having to hide her trueself and living secluded in the forest. The puppy she had and thought was lost is a metaphor foi Kaiden or wtv his name is and apparently she was the one that rescued the earl when badly injured. Hope it helps
