At first I was on edge about this theory since I'm not too big of a fujoshi, but looking back on the facts, this actually makes a lot of sense. Teru may like Akane.
1. When referring to his crush, Teru only ever uses gender neutral pronouns instead of saying 'her.' This is something I picked up on in the jap version. It's very abnormal.
When the girl confesses to him in the beginning of the story-
'Sorry, I already like someone.' (its more noticable in the original).
2. Teru has teased Akane about liking him before, when at Akanes house.
3. He refers to his crush on Aoi as 'Aoi.' He refers to Akane as Aoi.
4. Teru doesnt really ever interact with Aoi on a deeper level then recognizing her existence. He doesn't seem to have any reason to like her either.
5. He holds his crush on Aoi over Akanes head in order to compete with him. Saying he'd confess if he didn't. This could go proving either version.
Of course, this is just a theory. Ultimately we don't know. Currently his crush on girl Aoi has no air, but its possible Teru will be given backstory on why he likes girl Aoi.
