I wont say its the "newest" thing. Its one of the most common color scheme for characters. Just the same as blonde and blue eyes or white hair and blue/red eyes.

I've been wondering this lately, but are black hair and red eyes the new thing? I've been seeing it often like, Lucas, Maximillian, The guy from "The lady is a Marriott", Hue, etc. Not that im complaining tho ლ(´ڡ`ლ)
