I love the mangaka and manga but the rape chapter and the relationship that followed the assault wasn't okay

I agree that rape is terrible and I'm certainly not tryin to defend it, but I don't think the author puts it in there because rape is good or because the readers like it. I've always viewed it as just one of the worst things that can happen to someone and how painful something like that was for both parties to experience and the fact that the couple can recover from something like that just amazes me and makes their love all the more unbelievably exeptional and heartfelt. Also, this manga, like many others shows a victim that clearly didn't consi vg

Didn't give consent but also didn't 100% fight back and I believe the author did this on purpose to show that even though it was a tragic occurrence it was also deeper than just an assault. Sorry for the long ass rant and again I think rape is NEVER EVER ok but it's not quite as black and white as you and many other readers make it in my personal opinion.

No. The victim shouldn't have to fight back 100%. The assailant should stop the moment the victim shows their reluctance. And yeah, it is black and white. Rape should never ever ever ever be romanticized. I don't care if the author wants to deepen the plot or show how much it strenghtens a relationship. It's obvious they're not promoting it. But rape is something used way to much in yaoi to begin a relationship, and that is NOT okay. It's okay if they have rape, but if they do, they should at least portray the lasting effects correctly. My point is, people shouldn't romanticize rape. It's not okay.

THIS. People constantly try to normalize rape.

I would agree how the whole rape thing is a bit more grey than it may seem. There's cases where its definitely black and white. I'd think in a normal situation if someone you know is trying to do something you don't like you would do your best to make it clear to that person that you don't want it. Also I feel in a lot of cases people who would be involved in a sexual relationship would have enough ability to pickup on social cues to prevent anything serious from happening unless the person had ill intentions from the beginning then in that case not much can be done except for reporting it afterwards. (right away if possible so there is evidence.)
