The way his dad treated him in 29 made me think of how someone would treat a cheating lover. Is that why parents freak out on their kids for job/partner choices? They see it as an act of betrayal on their investments & future plans? I have teenage kids but that's something I never understood.
Honestly, I think that's exactly it. They probably just see their kids as an accessory to them and think they can have their whole lives planned out because that's what they want for themselves, not for their child.
