At some point Gio's thinking made my heart ached. He knows how Felix is soft and might as well leave him(not because Felix wants to but something may push him to leave his side out of consideration of Giovanni), so even if others mock his situation, he chose the very sure method so Felix will stay by his side. Just a small amount of warmth is enough for him. He's greedy for Felix's existence by his side but indifferent about himself being the subject of mockery.
