Honestly I wouldn't take it that way. It was more that he finally felt loved when in the arms of the doctor so he subconsciously reminisce the time of happiness before the trauma, it's normal for ppl who are about to die soon reminisce the time they were happy. So he remembered before things went sour, doesn't mean he didn't love the doctor less because he did say he wants to reunit with the doctor again.
