I think there's more to it than it seem.
From what was shown 300 leans was a lot of money, so he didn't need to offer that much money, a 1000 leans would most likely have been more than enough. What I think happened is that something was in the contract that will make the guy regret taking that deal, and offering such a huge amount of leans made it easier to make him sign the contract without trying to look too deep in what was included in the contract.
At least, I hope it's something like that, and not just some BS like in my eyes you're worth that much", while the ex husband go on with his life.
