you explained it so eloquently! it’s never easy to do the right thing it’s always a constant struggle; so they make it easier and self-gratifying by diverting serious issues to things that they do feel like they have more control over which in this case was a yaoi lol. they create a fictional villain to rally against, which were all the ‘rapists’ benji kept calling everyone and simplify it so that there is an us versus them narrative. now they can feel like a hero to stave off the guilt about being powerless and unable/unwilling to put real hard work into fighting real causes in the real world
