I just realised that "Dame" is an official title for a Knight Commander (UK) but it is also a common derogatory slang when referring to women, and commonly used as an insult. (I just thought the ml was sexist the whole time, but he was actually using a correct title). Also, why the f is a knight commander title the same as a derogatory insult???
Probably from people breaking from the English monarchy to go overseas. It's likely a case of people using titles ironically at first, then more as a joke, and finally as an insult.
