I think the story derived from our local folklores, but the story itself, i haven't heard of it at all. I'm also confused right now.
All I can say now is the "bakulaw" is actually a "KAPRE" in our myths. They're giants who lived in large trees like "balete". They have a habit of smoking an opium or tobacco. Also the reason why it's foggy around the tree.
