I just assumed the timing was different because the "i'm getting married" scene with no more talk didn't feel much like a breakup.
Since mc mentions a breakup i thought this happened first and then short after the ex mentions the wedding to put more distance.
But that's just my interpretation, it's not clearly explained so you could be totally right
