I think he got mad cause he purchased that pen for her, and when the other girl stole it she told “ i found this pen on the floor so you won’t mind it a use it” and he got angry.
But she could have just told her that she’s lying and that she stole the pen but she chose to nor say anything. Hope they can start to communicate more

Right, he should have just asked her why the other girl had the pen. And she could have told him that the girl just stole it. But no the author needed to make them act dumb. They really need to learn to communicate otherwise they will not last if they start to date
