Me too!! I love eleceed. I can’t wait for Tuesday update!! I came here for the same reason. The art looks very different, but the story is really long. I hope it’s good. Also hope there are females like we have in eleceed. A lot of the OP ML in these sorts of stories tend to not be accompanied /challenged by female counterparts of equal depth and goals and comparable power
Thanks for the recommendation! Yes I did try both. Unfortunately, I didn’t continue them. Out of respect for rejecting your cherished works, I wrote a long reply explaining my reason. You don’t have to read. No offense taken, it’s a lot lol. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
I disliked both for the same reason but different degrees of that offense. wow that sounds way more serious than I intended it to be lmao.
Anyway, the female characters are ancillary and subservient to the male leads in both—especially in the harem that is BAtE. The trope is obnoxious and I can’t stomach it. Solo Leveling much less so, but as soon as I saw the first female introduced as a ‘healer’ I had my guard up. I committed to many more chapters to see if this changed and asked those who were far ahead, but they said it doesn’t really change. So I lost much of my interest. I may or may not go back to SL, but it doesn’t have the same pull for me anymore.
However, this is just one of the many reasons why I love Eleceed and AOT. The female characters are equal to their male counterparts with their own goals, flaws, and character arcs independent of the males side characters and male protagonist. These stories also address and reverse gender archetypes (especially AOT) which truly enhances the story and furthers the plot. For instance, Armin was originally intended to be a girl and Eren’s love interest (but we’ve seen that trite shit so it’d be boring). Not boring? developing that character in the context of male social constructs. Subin from Eleceed hints at someone who may live beyond the gender binary in performance and it’s hard to not pick up on that character developing a possible love interest with her cis male counterpart. Moreover, it is repeatedly stated that these two are equals in strength and status (and humor LOL).
I love that shit. It makes for a much better story, more interesting cast, and removes the insidious distraction that is the sexism subtext.
Diversity is important. There isn’t enough representation of POC and queer folx in this type of fiction. I won’t get into that here bc this is already a novella and what led me to not like BAtE and SL was the sexism.
I came here after reading Eleceed, and waiting for updates so- is this good to read?
