I think he went back in time after something bad happening after Viche died. Maybe he was too devasted about losing Viche and something didn't go well with the female MC (like maybe the MC didn't turn out to be good and didn't lift his curse of sum like that.) So he went back in time with his memories. That would explain a lot about his change in attitude.

his new appreciation for the goddess might be that the saintess helped him go back in time and save viche. he might have needed her help in order to go back which is why he appreciates the goddess even though he hated religion before
Idk if he had a dream about the future or he went back to the past to and possibly that caused her to too bc he used some kinda magic in the future to redo things
