Spoilers.... Got this one from 1 of the comments too..
After that cute scene of Lilith and Payne... Her mother sets off the capital and visited the royal palace... Payne tried to hire people to protect Lilith or told the palace maids to keep out any harm to Lilith... Her mother came in into the royal place And actually confronted Lilith.. The palace maids or personel did not heed into Payne's instructions and directed lilith's mother to her and she got beaten up badly... While the palace maids are just watching... The beating stopped when Sasha and Arth intercepted... And after a while Payne arrived.. And he saw the bruises of Lilith.. He got so mad and felt so useless in protecting Lilith..
And that incident drive Payne to committedly form allies with Arth to make him the ruler.. Cause he does not want Lilith to be hurt by anyone ever again... And that made him go... No more mr nice guy

It's ok! But omg no :( I didn't really think Payne would turn out that way, but honestly who could blame him? It probably really affected him too though but wow Lilith doesn't deserve such harsh treatment TT..
Yes.. Lilith suffered a lot because of her mother's obsession to the novel.. Really sad..
And Lilith's mother had the guts to sabotage/ do harm to Sasha because Lilith's mother felt that she was the reason behind the novel changing way too much from the original..
Please, I can't be the only one who had a single tear roll down my face during the interaction of Lilith and Payne TT It was so adorable too :( I hope Lilith's mother doesn't live if she touches those 2 ヽ(`Д´)ﾉ !!
