Her momsending her to the temple was keeping her from jail; if she had remained inside the castle, Tia would have done so. But Aubrey decided to side with someone who "could get rid of her problem" instead of wrapping her head around why she was there in the first place. She was given so many chances to reflect and repent. It is a little sad there was no time for her mom or dad to sit down and fully explain to her why she was going to the temple (as it is clear she wasn't going to figure it out herself.) However, she chose to go from pettiness to violence against another all the way up to endangering her employer. She cranked up the stove to make charcoal herself, not anyone else.
The only thing I would change about her death would have been a thorough interrogation to determine if the one secret passage was the only one revealed. Perhaps it happened off screen but it seems silly to close one passage when there was potential danger of the rest being known outside the fortress. It doesn't surprise me her parents couldn't bring themselves to kill her and I hope her sister finds the burden easier to bear knowing she saved the rest of them from death.
I think that Aubrey shouldn't have just died off like this. They should've just put her in jail. Let her reflect. From the way it seems its like till her death she doesn't know what she did wrong. Plus her family are the ones who suffered cuz of her stupidity.
