think maki slit her mothers throat herself (since the knife the mother was holding didn't have blood on it)
And i feel like maki did it reluctantly too because she was silent while doing so,
because at the very least the mother showed she cared in her own way, asking maki to go back, then personaly killing the bastard herself for makis sake and saying she's proud of them.

i too am confused if her mother slit her own throat or maki did it herself but i think she slit her throat i based it on the panel where she said that shes proud of having them as her kids and because she's carrying the knife herself buttt theres also a panel where she muttered GUH! and then blood splattered on the wall soooo im really confused if she did it or if its maki
