Could be both things, I seen in other stories that they use both premises.
The A person look for the B person to do the thing, since for both of them will be like killing two birds with one shot.
For the person A, there will be no son's with the gene.
For the person B, he wouldn't have a wife nor a child. So it's like a free way.
Both of them could be working together.

I think we all already can tell that the assassinations were most likely because of either
A) the ml is half demon and if he has a kid that kid could be like 25% demon to and I’m assuming someone with power (most likely) doesn’t want him to have kids or smt because of the demon gene so when the rumour got out that she was “pregnant” they decided to kill her and the child because it was the fastest way
B) this could be another cliché romance drama and some chick we haven’t seen yet is obsessed/possessive over the ml. They would most likely also have enough power to get someone to commit an assassination on the fl when the pregnancy rumours got out and made her jealous.
Either way I hope they get their revenge! ψ(｀∇´)ψ
