I can't remember exactly when, but in 2016 or 2017 there was a huge push to get gay content off weibo, douban, and other Chinese websites. The author of 他们的故事(Tamen de gushi) had to take a long break. That's why the main characters only have one kissing scene in like 300 chapters.
I think this author got a similar talking to about their content, and just decided to quit instead of continuing and being harassed by the government and society.
It is such a shame because this work is one of the most visually appealing pieces of art that I have ever seen. Waste of talent due to government censorship.
That's why you'll see a lot of Chinese manhua with wlw themes, but they never kiss or profess their love, and the relationship usually goes nowhere.
