he did, on the chickens grave was the day he and chitose got him so they made that the chicks bday, and niina wasn't suppose to know that. so he tricked her into agreeing that it was her(niina)that protected the falling pregnant lady.confirming his hunch that chitose's soul/reincarnation was in niina.at the ending he was just telling niina that he didnt care if that was true, that he wanted to be wth her(niina). hope that helps!
