Maybe I don't remember... But did they say that the egg has 2 Griffin inside? I thought they only told him to help them hatch the egg and present the Griffin to them because it belongs to the kingdom.
The king and his knight didn't know that it has 2 Griffin inside. So Ian will keep the other one in secret while the other Griffin belongs to the king.
So yes! He will keep them both. The Dragon egg and the Griffin and that's where I stop reading the novel.
