Bro I can’t even find a historical drama or something that doesn’t villainize corsets.... they are literally historic bras, they never made anyone faint, there was no permanent danger to organs, and there was no chafing.... ;_; Man I just want something that like portrays corsets as a positive good

I know right ?? I mean some women overdid it by thightening it so much that they could barely breath but it was their choice
Corset was also good because it kept the posture of you back and shoulders in place

True! But even then that trend didn't even stay for long and the number of people that did it were very small. And don't even get me started on how misogyny shaped societies view of corsets

Breathing was never an issue tho! That’s the crazy part... corsets were designed specifically for each persons body shape so it fit them perfectly. And for people who wanted to tightlace, they could still breathe fairly easy by instead of breathing with their stomach they breathed with their lungs if that makes sense? Like if you’ve ever worn a corset you know what I mean...

    Oh I understand
I thought that it can be a little hard cause when I wear tight bras it's less easier to breath
    But I get it
    Thank you for explaining

    Exactly
I don't know why but I just love corsets
    Like they're so beautiful
Don't know why most people think they're bad things that make you fell uncomfortable when wearing them

Plus, unlike modern bras where people have no choice but to fit the bra, corsets were made to fit the person. On top of that, corsets worked significantly better on "squishy" plus sized bodies with no strain on their system. Skinny people don't have that "squish" at all to get the voluptuous figure that people historically desired.
So i lose my mind twice more when I remember that Asian culture especially loves to fat shame and in love with the skinny body type, therefore asian stories will reflect FLs that have the aforementioned body type/beauty standard. You will rarely ever see a plus sized FL, and when you do, it's weight they have to lose.

    So thinking:
corsets were made to comfortably fit the person,
it was (and still is) encouraged to not wear a corset that hurts you,
corsets worked better on "squishy/fleshy" plus sized women,
there're no plus sized FLs in asian stories that frequently villainize corset (that i know of).
And then seeing people who obviously don't know what they are talking about blab on about it is soヽ(`Д´)ノ (### ̄皿 ̄)

Fun thing to think about: all those layers that women had to wear (chemise, corset, under petticoat, crinoline, over petticoat, dress) could actually be beautifully layored armour that detered rapists from having to get through all those layers to rape them. They were quite literally shielding themselves and simultaneously doing something they enjoyed (i.e. extravagant fashion)

I'm Asian (Iranian , it's in the Southwestern of Asia) and in a period of time in our history overweight women were loved and desired because it meant that they were wealthy and had food to eat . But it wasn't the same with other countries at the time I guess
    I'm not sure

You're correct, in almost all cultures, fat women were historically desired because that meant they were well fed, come from a wealthy family that can afford to be well fed and great for bearing babies. Hence the voluptuous silhouette that corset created on plus sized women.
I was speaking about modern asian culture

Its just funny that corsets were villainized by men bc women were getting richer bc of it, I mean corsets were made by women to fit and support women

Yeah, before male clothing designers came into the field. Women were the people that controlled and created their own fashion. And you know who didn't like that? Men of course, so they put up a bunch of propaganda Villanizing and ridiculing women's fashion and in this case corsets

And even skinny people who wore corsets to get that voluptuous look, most of the time rather than like forcing squish that isn’t there, they would put in padding to make their hips and boobs look bigger...

But this Manhwa didn't do any of that, the fl mentioned that because of Heather and Angela's corset that showed of Angela's figure other women wanted to be like her so they started to starve themselves. They already wear corsets and nothing happened, its Angela and Heather's fault to influence the fashion in an unhealthy way. Corsets are even used as a medical brace for people who have a curve in their spine, corsets generally are good for the body, it just depends on how it was made and for what it was to show.
