Come on, Japan

Any time I read something like this, I'm always struck by how badly Japan needs to address mental health issues more often. Like, even though Michiru didn't say anything about what happened at the time, she clearly experienced something traumatic enough that it caused a dramatic shift in her personality, and the way the people in her life reacted was to just... not say anything about it? And they even thought maybe it was just a cold? Michiru should have been placed in therapy immediately after the incident. Feelings of shame and low self-worth? Therapy. Repressed traumatic memories? Therapy. Childhood sexual abuse? Therapy. And yeah, I know this is just a fictional story, but fiction can say a lot about the real values a culture holds and Japan absolutely gives zero fucks about the mental health of its citizens, which is such an unfortunate thing for everyone involved.
