Omg when u say one thing it makes me want to spoil everything XD ! I dont know if it fits your description as 'beautiful ending' but Ryuu got into accident and when he is in ICU, Akira kiss his arm.
After everything settled down, Ryuutaro ends up leaving the hospital and evethough everyone has asked him to stay, he insisted to leave(he said it's bcs personal reason and he dont want to talk about it) and rejoining NGO thing in the end.
It's later implicitly revealed that the reason he leave is bcs he realize he is in love with Akira, and he scared that his heart will get captured if he stays.
OMG!!!! So you are telling me that they dont end up together? Why!!? I was so looking foward to see both of them being together!!!!!! (╯°Д °)╯╧╧ ┗( T﹏T )┛

*****spoiler alert* When Ryuu was about to leave, Noboru begged him to say and asked why, and Ryuu replied, "I wonder why..." and then he look at Akira(She is in hospital 5th floor and can't hear the conversation) and said, "eventhough I really want to stay..."
Then Ryuu remembered the feeling when Akira kissed his arm and he said while smiling, "I need to go... before I got captured."*****
IT'S BEAUTIFULLL. I LOVEE how Ryuu and Akira always been such a serious person at work and never have any shoujo whatsoever the entire series but then they're getting setimental for each other in the end I just can't
In the end of the series they look at their own hand and imagining they're holding hands together IT SO SWEET I CANNOT HANDLE.
Why!!!! They were going to be a badass couple!!!! Is such a shame I really wanted them to be happy together

it was said that Akira has given up her feminity/womanhood of marrying and raising kids in order to revolutionizing the hospital(which has kinda sad past from her decision).
On the other hands, Ryuu has a free soul, he is afraid he can't let go or that he can't leave anymore if he stays with Akira after realizing his feelings(ASDFGHJKL SOSWEET), so he leave in hurry(he actually has to undergo rehabilition after accident), evethough he really want to stay. I think all of this is new to him, since he always devoted his feelings for the patients, that's why i found it cute, it's sweet, but ironic and sad at the same time

YESSS!! the author always has his series have unfinished ending(If u have read Yuureitou it has a beautiful ending too). The truth is Akira kissed Ryuu because Ryuu calling his dad and mom in his sleep as he remembered the scene when his family going to the sea that he love so much
