I think it's because emperors have to marry for political reasons. And if you marry someone, you have to do the deed with them so they don't really have a choice
I know but this portion of stories doesn't sit right with me. I know in the olden days it was just a means of pleasure and people didn't attach the same value we attach with sex. But still it gets on my nerves.
All the other aspects of this story is nice till now.

The concubine is the daughter of a minister who might have political ambitions and the child can be used for that.
Not everybody attach value to sex tbh. And sex does not equals love every time.

As I said it's something each individual believes.
I just can't understand the logic of these emperors who doesn't want a particular person to get pregnant with their child or feel affection for them and they go have sex with them and boom pregnant and later in be like I don't want that child blah blah.
If you don't like someone then keep your thing in your pants rather than saying shit like that later on
