I read the novel and father is absolute trash.
Think about it why does he partially remember something. Most likely he turned back time for the Fl cause only the magician and partner can turn back time and only the partner can retain the memories unless he gives them to someone else. So if he really did it for himself he wouldn't have forgotten that nightmare he keeps having.
