In one chapter in the novel, we get a scene of Ludwig in the original timeline musing on why he helps Mia.
He talks about how, unlike other nobles, she isn't excessively greedy--as long as she herself isn't starving she'll share what she has with others. How even though she's stupid, she works hard to learn what he teaches. Even though she's arrogant, she listens and heeds her advice. Even though she's a coward, she didn't run away when the empire was destabilizing and instead stayed and tries to fix the problems. Even though she might make a mistake out of ignorance, she listens to counsel and never makes the same mistake twice.
It was a really great articulation of Mia's flaws and virtues.

normally i would not like mc’s who don’t have a good nature but i quite like our fl. she knows she’s useless and is only doing everything we can to prevent her death by creating and trying to avoid certain connections. also i like how she didn’t even try to study economics or politics since she doesn’t like studying. i think it’s unrealistic how in every isekai or reincarnation manga that they are magically smart, studious, or was an office worker in their past life so they know how to manage every aspect of a territory and how to start and maintain a successful business. she’s a much more realistic take on reincarnated/regressed mc’s. so i understand why a lot of people don’t like the fl, but i think those people are just used to an ideal unrealistic perfect mc that they try to project that on every other manga’s mc. not that anyone picked a fight with me but thanks for listening to my ted talk ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
