Of course it is incredibly stupid of the author to introduce such intense drama at the end of a series. It's incredibly unbelievable that the ML had no idea that the FL was spending time with the 3rd wheel, especially since his "best friend" must have known but didn't bothertell him even though he seemed to be encouraging a relationship between the ML and FL. With so many loose ends to cover (just what is the FL's relationship with the 3rd wheel; was she lying to the ML when she said that she's never told anyone else besides her family about her disease, etc., etc.) and only 3 more chapters to go, it certainly does seem like the series musta been axed.
