The setting is historical Japan so it's all culturally accurate but it is annoying and unpleasant to read. Also this culture is still very prominent in Japan so there's an audience that enjoys these stories but for international fans, it's hard to enjoy it.

To summarize he basically says that he had no plans on stopping her from working if she married him. He doesn't seem like a bad guy but good on her for getting mad at him. I'm glad they managed to talk properly esp since most stories lack some serious communication.
