I'm not very familiar with how it actually was but is it true that like in this story the lady of the house would eat simple meals with the Knights ?
Medieval settings are always the best. And this author is doing a great job with it. I'm so used to the renaissance era these stories usually go for, I'd forgotten how much I liked the medieval ones.
That depended on the actual status and wealth of said noble. Some where dirt poor and had hardly better food or clothing than the commoners.
It's really nice to see that the author knows the fact that castles and duke's mansions are not as lively as it is like other stories, they really paid attention in everything. They even mind the status when eating, it's admirable for even small facts, they mind it.
